Do you like 2D characters and vast lands to explore with beautiful, computer-destroying graphics? Do you like spending all your money on gacha for said 2D characters and their weapons? Look no further. Genshin Impact might be for you!
Genshin Impact, an open-world action role-playing game released in 2020 by miHoYo, features gameplay where you are a traveler searching for your sibling. At the beginning of the game, you get to choose between two characters, Lumine and Aether. Whichever you choose doesn’t affect the game substantially.
As you play through the game and events released now and then, you’ll gain more characters. You get to choose among four interchangeable characters to explore and fight many enemies, each with different personalities, voice lines, and abilities. You can give the characters artifacts that increase their stats and how much damage they can deal or how much support they could give other characters in your party.
As for the gacha, you can use the in-game currency, primogens, to make intertwined fates and acquaint fate. Intertwined fates can be used for the limited characters and the weapon banner while acquaint fates are used for the standard banner. And yes, you still get weapons on all the banners.
All items, save for characters, are rated 1 star through 5 stars. Although the 5 stars may seem better, there are many 4-star and even 3-star weapons that are much more efficient in getting the job done. Characters, however, are rated either 4 stars or 5 stars.
When you do quests, you get primogens and experience. Recently, they have been more generous with wishes, but original genshin players know how difficult it was to get primogens after the first couple of story quests.
The game is multiplayer and it is free. It’s released on PlayStation, PC, Android, and ios, but it takes up a lot of space. If you plan on playing, make sure you make enough space for the game AND the updates.
Many say this is a copycat of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but Genshin Impact is not only free but also multiplatform and cross-platform. They may have similar plotlines, but I don’t think the latter is copying.
I rate this game an 8.5 out of 10, mostly because the story has no skip button and it took three tries to get my account back from hackers.
