Video Game Review: Slime Rancher 2

Video+Game+Review%3A+Slime+Rancher+2

In January 2016, game developer Monomi Park published Slime Rancher. This game is a first-person simulation adventure game, as well as an open-world game. With approximately 3.5 million players and 998,000 active players, it was very successful for its time. In September 2022, Monomi Park released a sequel, Slime Rancher 2. It’s still in the early access stage, so there aren’t many players. However, that doesn’t mean that gameplay quality is any less good.

With amazing landscapes to behold and adorable slimes to collect, gamers play as Beatrix Lebeau and discover the hidden beauties of Rainbow Island. Beatrix can build a farm and illegally adopt slimes that range from tabby slimes to honey slimes to radioactive slimes. These slimes can eat the plorts, or the product a slime produces when they are fed with food, to become a largo, which is a hybrid of two slimes.

Although it may sound like a wholesome game, it is not for the faint of heart. When a largo eats another plort, it turns into tarr. Tarr is a sludge-like enemy that will attack other slimes and even the player! It’ll eat other slimes around, and they will turn into tarr and sooner or later, create a big problem. However, when players splash the tarr with water, it’ll evaporate, leaving the slimes safe and sound.

Another threat is feral slimes. These slimes can be any variant of a largo, but they are hostile. Usually, they will hop in the air and pounce on you, causing damage. They can be appeased if you feed them food, like chickens, fruits, or veggies.

While the game is not multiplayer, there is a mod for it, but it’s still in development. I rate this game a 9.5/10 because while it is fun, it’s very easy to get lost and confused in the world since it’s very big. It’s also not free so be aware of that. Happy gaming!
