After squeaking by Clarksville High 13-12 on Monday, the Coyotes flag football looks to earn Montgomery County’s first flag football championship on Monday, May 1. The game will be hosted by Austin Peay’s Fortera Stadium beginning at 6 p.m.
Having gotten revenge on the Wildcats for one of only two losses on the season, the Coyotes seek additional revenge on the Indians for their other loss. In the last contest, the Indians squeaked by 6-0. Montgomery Central comes into the championship undefeated, but the Coyotes held them to their lowest point total of the season.
Coach Aaron King feels confident in his team. “We know what we need to improve on for the rematch,” he said. “Montgomery Central is a good team, so it’s not going to come easy. We will be fighting for every yard gained. But I have faith in our girls. They will find a way.”
The Coyotes are led on offense by quarterback Kinleigh Lewis. Her legs and arm make her a dual threat to any team. The duo of Madison Bennett and Ariy Denson have led the team in touchdowns this season.
Not to be outdone, the Coyotes’ defense has been stellar. Led by Leilyn Mercado and Jakayla Thomas, the defense has made scoring against them a difficult task.
Tickets for the contest are available through GoFan.
