Each year on November 11, the United States recognizes veterans who served in one of the Armed Forces. Because of the proximity to Fort Campbell, Clarksville is home to many hundreds, if not thousands, of veterans. West Creek has its share of veterans as well.

In recognition of the faculty and staff who served, The Coyote Caller would like to profile these brave men and women. Up to Veteran’s Day, we will introduce readers to two veterans a day and let them explain in their own words the significance of serving.

Today, meet Mr. Clint Magnuson, our permanent substitute teacher, and Mr. Rojas, a social studies teacher.

Q: Which branch of the military did you serve? Can you be specific about which group, company, brigade, etc.?

A: “I served in the Army for 12 1/2 years. I was in both the Active Duty and Reserve Components. Some of the units I was a part of include 91st Military Policy Battalion, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, and the 304th Military Police Battalion.”

Q: Why did you choose to enlist in this particular branch?

A: I chose the Army because several of my family members joined the Army and to me it represented military service the best.

Q: Why did you enlist?

A: “I had always dreamed of joining the military. I was also 19 and I wanted to provide for my one-year old son. I wanted him to grow up knowing that you can pursue your dreams no matter what the circumstances.”

Q: How long did you serve?

A: “12 1/2 years”

Q: What would say to students who are thinking about enlisting?

A: “Make sure you have a plan, ask questions, and volunteer for every opportunity. Ninety percent of what you do in the military is mental, and when you realize that those before you did it, you can do it!”
