“Staycation” Spot #2: Clarksville Greenway

Part+of+the+Greenway+in+shade

Today’s “Staycation” spot has one great thing going for it: It’s absolutely free and close by.

The Clarksville Greenway’s main trailhead (trail’s beginning) is located at Heritage Park but also at Pollard Road off of Peacher’s Mill Road. The entire trail itself covers nine miles both walking and biking.

Much wildlife can be seen on the Greenway.

The trail is part of the Rails to Trails Initiative. This program turns old abandoned railroad rights of way into walking and biking trails. According to the city of Clarksville website, the trail “preserves a natural space for alternative transportation from the downtown area to the North side of town. Native species of plants and animals can be viewed throughout the corridor.” Anyone who has ever walked the trail can attest how beautiful and peaceful it is.

Raymond C. Hand Pass

One option is to bike the trail. Clarksville BCycle has bicycles available for rental at the Pollard Road Trailhead. For more information about this, visit their website.

The trail is open during daylight hours. For rules and safety requirements, visit the Greenway’s website
