A newly unsealed arrest affidavit has revealed that a Ferris man was captured on an internal surveillance system in the moments following the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy, raising new questions about what happened inside the home before police arrived.
The case centers on the death of Tre’Shawn Moore, who was shot on Tidwell Drive in Ferris, Texas. According to court documents, emergency responders were dispatched to the home on the morning of May 23 after a call reporting a gunshot wound to a juvenile inside the living room. When investigators arrived at 10:51 a.m., they determined that a juvenile resident of the home had picked up an unattended firearm and discharged it, with the gunfire striking Moore in the upper torso. He later died from his injuries.
As first responders and investigators worked the scene, court papers state that 23-year-old Takievion Holmes was recorded on the home’s internal surveillance system picking up the firearm, walking toward a bedroom, and then leaving the residence entirely. Ferris Police said the footage was corroborated by multiple witness statements describing similar movements.
Authorities said Holmes briefly evaded officers near a local convenience store before he was located and arrested at a nearby neighborhood park. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly riding in an SUV with his girlfriend, who has not been charged in connection with the case.
The affidavit states that when investigators showed Holmes the surveillance footage and presented witness accounts alleging he had brought the firearm into the home, he admitted to taking the gun and fleeing once he realized Moore had been shot.
Attempts to reach residents at the Tidwell Drive home for comment were unsuccessful, and a family member of Moore’s declined to discuss the case further.
Tre’Shawn Moore’s funeral was held on June 6, as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continues.
