Senior cheerleader Aeriona Cockran was named the Coyote Student-Athlete of the Month for October. Jasmine Lyle sat down with Aeriona to find out more about her.
Question: How long have you been cheering?
Answer: Two years
Q: What is your favorite part about cheer?
A: The opportunities and the relationships with the team
Q: How do you manage your time between school, practice and games?
A. I lay out specific times to do school work.
Q: What is your favorite memory or moment as a student-athlete?
A. Cheer camp. Spending time with the girls on the middle school team. Celebrating our team wins with competitions.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve received from a coach?
A: Winning and losing with class
Q: What is your favorite song to listen to before competing?
A: “Let Her Cook” by GloRilla
Q: How do you stay motivated when things get tough?
A: I keep pushing myself and telling myself there’s always a positive end to something.
Q: How has being a student-athlete affected your social life?
A: It makes me busier and helps me learn to manage my time better.
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes who are just starting in your sport?
A: Don’t let any small inconvenience stop you from achieving your goal. Don’t let failure stop you.
Q: What values have you learned from being part of a team?
A: How important it is to listen to and trust one another.
