Co-salutatorian Madison Bennett would describe her high school experience as successful. Besides being a co-salutatorian, she starred on the soccer team, finishing her career as the school’s leading scorer with 110 goals. Her efforts earned a scholarship from Montevallo University in Montevallo, Alabama.
Bennett describes her key to success as having a good support system and the right motivation to do well. Her support system includes her parents and sister.
“I know they’ve always been proud of me and I wanted to make them more proud and reach their expectations of what they have for me,” she said.
Bennett remembers one of her favorite memories of this year.
“Senior night when we were able to paint our senior tiles and watch the Spiderman movie because it was good seeing only seniors coming together and having a good time,” she said.
Even though she earned the salutatorian honor, not every class was easy for her. Her most difficult class was AP Literature.
“I’m not the best at English, and it’s hard to write on a time limit,” she said.
Her favorite class was Human Anatomy and Physiology.
“I like learning about the human body,” she said.
At Montevallo, she plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology and focus on medicine. She then plans to get her master’s degree to become a physician’s assistant.
While anatomy was her favorite class because it will help her with her future career, she feels a different class benefited her the most.
“Personal Finance because it can affect you later in dealing with all your finances and what to do with your money,” she said.
Bennett offers final advice to students about maintaining good grades.
“Prioritize academics over athletics and after-school activities,” she said. “That way you’re sure you’re doing everything correctly in that aspect.”
