For the week of April 24-April 30, the Coyote baseball squad went 0-2, with both losses coming against district rival Rossview.

On Monday, April 24, the Hawks jumped on the Coyotes for six runs in the first inning, including a home run by the Hawks’ C.J. Lattimore. Not to be outdone, the Coyotes put five on the board in the bottom of the first.

Junior Nate Lucas blasted a solo home run and Floyd Dowell added a double, but the Coyotes could not muster any offense after the first inning.

Pitcher Andres Garcia surrendered 12 runs in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.

In the return match on Tuesday, April 25, nothing seemed to go the Coyotes’ way as the squad was no-hit by Rossview’s pitching.

On the mound, senior Braden Canaan pitched four innings, giving up six runs (five earned), while striking out two and walking one batter. Lucas pitched one inning in relief, surrendering three earned runs.

The team had two games canceled this past weekend, but none were district contests.

The Coyotes’ next game is at Springfield in the district play-in game on May 3 at 6 p.m.
