Two Coyote student actresses received Tennessee Mid-State Regional Theatre recognition after the Thespian Conference (Thescon) at Middle Tennessee State University.
Seniors Breonna Wilson and Violet Anderson scored in the top 20 percent of over 700 auditioning students from across Tennessee. For Wilson and Anderson, to be recognized is an honor.
“I was super excited, but I wasn’t surprised when I got a call back,” Anderson said. “It was affirming to know that I did well, and all of my hard work paid off.”
Both students have spent their time preparing for Mid State auditions that took place at Thescon. Getting into Mid State is a big deal for many young actors, as it inspires more opportunities for scholarships and college auditions for these talented students. Actors must spend weeks preparing a monologue audition piece to perform in front of many college scouts, and professional theatre teachers.
“I wanted to do something I could relate to and use my own experience,” Wilson said. She explained the importance of picking the right monologue. “I’m a storyteller. I know that acting is what I’m meant to do. That’s what I’m put on this earth for.”
Both girls share an incredible passion for acting, adding more validity to their talents that earned them a place in Mid State. While not a competition, Mid State provides actors the opportunity to work with peers on their level, as well as build connections with professionals that can help their careers in the future.
“I think my passion for acting really sets me apart,” Anderson said. “I want to pursue it as a career, and I really just want to be in movies.”
Anderson did exceptionally well in her audition. She got callbacks and scholarship offers from prestigious New York Acting schools, securing her a spot in these elite acting programs.
“After my audition I was very satisfied with my performance,” Wilson said. “Once I found out I got callbacks, it was just confirmation that I’m supposed to do this. All I can say about the whole experience is to believe in yourself, because if not you then who will?”
