Senior Kinleigh Lewis continues to rack up recognition for her flag football play. Last semester, she committed to play football at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. In December, the Tennessee Titans nominated her for the Maxwell Football Club aware as national flag football player of the year.
The Titans invited her, her family, coaches and friends to the final home game of the season on Sunday, Jan. 5. The Titans recognized her at halftime of the game.
Her coaches, Aaron King and Keisha Fedderman
“It’s an amazing honor, so for the Titans to be able to acknowledge her and celebrate West Creek, is just nothing short of wonderful, considering this is only our third year,” Coach Fedderman said.
Her success comes from years of hard work and determination. She has consistently shown up, put in the effort, and made sure to improve every step of the way.
“I mean, she’s followed the pattern, she’s done everything that we’ve asked of her so much more,” Coach King said. “She asks questions on to what she needs to do to improve, and then you can tell that she’s taking values critiques and practicing them and working on them at home and just bringing it every day she does not make excuses.”
While game days are exciting, some of the best moments happen off the field. The bond between teammates is just as important as the wins.
“I would think my favorite moments are the moments that are not during game days, just those times when the girls are being candid and being funny and just being themselves and being kids,” she said.
Lewis’ talent speaks for itself, especially when it comes to her throwing ability. She has a natural skill set that makes her stand out as a quarterback.
“I think her best skills are, obviously her arm, she has an insane arm,” Coach King said. “This girl can throw the ball 45 yards in the air. She’s pretty accurate on the deep ball as well, but also on top of that, her vision of the field is also really good.”
Her coaches believe that what really makes her different is her leadership. She pushes herself and her teammates to be better every day.
“Her hard work, her dedication and her drive to be a leader each and every single day sets her apart from most athletes I’ve worked with,” Coach King said.
Even though the 2025 season hasn’t officially started, Lewis is already preparing for what’s ahead. Right now, she’s just focused on enjoying the process. She is also focused on winning state this year as this is the first year flag football is recognized as a TSSAA sport.
“It’s been good, it’s still preseason so it hasn’t been stressful. I’m focused on going to state and winning the championship,” she said.
The inaugural MFC National Flag Football Player of the Year award will be presented on March 14, 2025, at the 88th Maxwell Awards, which will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.
