Junior point guard Kameron Bowers joined an exclusive club on Dec. 28 against Westview High School. He joined only three other Coyotes boys basketball players to score 1,000 points for his high school career.
He joins Zavion Williams (2011), Tairell Fletcher (2017) and Jaylen Negron (2019). Bowers joins the club in just his junior season.
“I didn’t realize it at first but was just trying to win the game that was happening,” Bowers said.
Senior Myles Luckett, who’s been playing with him since freshman year, said “He’s been telling me since freshman year that this was one of his goals. Seeing him make it happen is amazing. I’m proud of him.”
When talking about Kameron’s game style, Myles said, “He plays like a prime Kemba Walker.”
Off the court, Kameron is a little more lowkey. “He’s quiet around people he doesn’t know,” Luckett said, but that doesn’t stop him from being a leader when it’s game time.
Bowers’ journey to this milestone was built on consistent hard work and focus. “I just kept working and stayed focused,” Bowers said.
The Coyotes’ goal for the rest of the season includes winning another district championship. The entire team celebrated his accomplishment, and it’s already motivating them to push harder.
“By trusting him and having confidence in the shots he takes, we’ve been able to help him get here,” Luckett said. “It’ll definitely inspire the underclassmen. Kameron’s leadership and dedication are things the younger players can look up to.”
