The boys’ basketball squad features three seniors this season, Myles Luckett, Staevon Collier and Tyreice Wiggs. They have helped the squad jump out to a 5-2 record, including last week’s victory over state champion Chattanooga Prep.
Write Makayla Rosser sat down with the trio to find out more about how their basketball experiences have influenced their lives.
Question: What has been your favorite memory from playing basketball in high school?
Answer–Myles Luckett: “Late night bus rides freshman year.”
Answer-Staevon Collier “Last year when we won the district championship.”
Answer-Tyreice Wiggs: “When playing with teammates and the early/late practices, Also winning games that matter the most to us.”
Q: How do you stay motivated during tough games or practices?
ML: Thinking about the end goal; district championship, regional championship, and state championship.”
SC: “Me just being able to play basketball because some people would want to be in my shoes”
TW: “Always remembering why I started it. And continue to keep a positive mindset in different times.”
Q: What advice would you give to younger players who want to succeed in basketball?
ML: “Stay humble, work on your game, have a good attitude.”
SC: Stay true to yourself & be confident.”
TW: To keep God in your life through the whole journey. Always believe in yourself and team.”
Q: How has being part of the team helped you grow as a person?
ML: It’s helped me with time management & being vocal/a leader”
SC: “It has helped me mature a lot quicker, like leading by example inside the school halls, and staying on top of my school work.”
TW: “It has helped me learn people and understand the bigger picture outside of basketball.”
Q: What are your plans for basketball or life after graduation?
ML: “I plan to go to college for I.T.”
SC: “I plan on going to the Air Force.”
TW: “To get a scholarship in basketball and play at a higher level. Also, get a degree in business.”
