Junior point guard Kam Bowers poured in 26 points as the boys basketball squad dominated Station Camp High School 73-53 on Tuesday, Dec. 3. With the victory, the team ran its record to 3-1 on the season.
A dominating first-half performance allowed the team to jump out to a 40-21 halftime lead, ending on a 3-point buzzer-beater by Tobias Santiago, 11.
The defensive pressure proved too much for the visiting Bison, who fell for the first time this season. Senior Ty Thurston, who came into the game averaging 17.7 points per game, was held to just 11 points. The Bison averaged 66.6 points per game in their first contests, including a 55-43 victory over Northeast High on Nov. 25.
Coach Matthew Hardaway praised the team’s growth and maturity.
“The players are demonstrating a strong commitment to embracing their roles and are paying close attention to the details,” he said. “They’re consistently working on the small things that truly make a big difference.”
Junior Kendal George added 12 points, and senior Myles Luckett chipped in 10 in the victory.
The Coyotes next take the floor on Friday at Pope John Paul II in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Knights come into the contest with a 5-0 record on the season.
